What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is an non-intrusive complementary therapy using specialised techniques of the thumbs and fingers to massage the face, feet and hands. During treatment sessions I combine foot massage techniques with the application of pressure to specific points.
History of Reflexology
The treatment originates 5000 years ago in China. There is also evidence from wall paintings found in ancient Egyptian tombs that reflexology was practiced in Egypt in 2000 BC. It developed over the centuries and is believed to have been practiced in Europe as long ago as the 16th century. The first reflexology training school in England was the Bayly School, in 1967.
I have had a long and successful career as a Legal Executive. In 2014 I travelled, with my husband, to Bhutan for the holiday of a lifetime. It was a life changing experience. I realised that I had been living a very stressful life which was making me ill and miserable. I saw that it was possible to live happily without the need to earn lots of money to buy things I didn’t need (and didn’t even really want). Although I am not a particularly religious person I was aware that I was undergoing an awakening of some sort. A few months later I left my Law job and started to train at the Cotswold Academy as a reflexologist, studying for an ITEC Level 3 Diploma. I am a Member of the Association of Reflexologists. My treatment room is based within Pure Sereniti in Cirencester Gloucestershire. I have also trained with Ziggie Bergman and I am now a qualified Zone Face Lift practitioner as well as being qualified in advanced facial reflexology.
After my trip to Bhutan I finally understood that stress was making me unhappy and I could see the same thing happening to my family, friends and colleagues. The first time I had a full reflexology treatment I came home and slept much better than I had for many years. I knew that I wanted to learn this technique and use it to help others. My wish is that, even though I may not be able to change their busy lifestyle, when people come to me for a treatment they will have an hour when they feel peaceful and stress free; and that they will sleep soundly and awake the next day refreshed and ready to take on the world with a spring in their step.
